West Ham United will have Roma as competition if they are to make a move for Newcastle midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum this summer according to The Daily Mail.

The Hammers are looking to bolster their ranks ahead of an important campaign in 2016-17, with the club moving to the Olympic Stadium.

Although a striker remains the transfer priority, it is also believed that a versatile winger that can play across the forward line is on the list too.

Wijnaldum was one of Newcastle’s only players to perform well in an abject season, with the Netherlands international proving himself in his debut campaign in English football.

The Dutch star looks certain to leave St James’ Park following the Tyneside club’s relegation and could well be a shrewd acquisition for Slaven Bilic’s men.

Wijnaldum will not feature at Euro 2016 after Netherlands failed to qualify and as such the Hammers could move quickly to secure his signature.
