New West Ham United signing Havard Nordtveit has admitted that playing his last game for Borussia Monchengladbach this weekend will be an emotional experience.

The Norway international’s contract with the Bundesliga side is expiring at the end of the current campaign and as such he is set for a free transfer switch to Slaven Bilic’s charges ahead of next season.

Nordtveit, who was once on the books of Hammers’ rivals Arsenal, has been an important figure at Borussia Park for a number of seasons and played a role in the modest club overachieving.

The Scandinavian has confessed that leave Monchengladbach will be an emotional experience, with his final home game against Bayer Leverkusen a sad moment.

“The game will be very special for me,” he told Bild.

“I remember when Marc-Andre ter Stegen came to us before his last game with moist eyes in the player-circle on the pitch.

“It was very difficult and emotional even for me. I can also cry – that’s not a problem for me.

“I hope to say goodbye with a goal – that would be a dream!”

Nordtveit is one of an expected host of new faces to join the Hammers before the move to the Olympic Stadium next season, with West Ham beating a host of other European sides to the star’s signature.

The fact he has signed on a free transfer will also free up funds for Bilic to pursue other players.
