Jelavic pulls one back against Newcastle

Despite many believing that West Ham will be quiet in the current transfer window, it now looks as if there may be a lot of movement before the end of the month.

Jack Sullivan took to Twitter to update fans with the latest on Emmanuel Emenike’s move to Upton Park. Sullivan stated that the striker had arrived in London to undergo a medical. It is believed that the Nigerian forward will sign a six-month loan deal with the potential for the move to be made permanent at the end of the period.

There seems to be a further development on the striker front as Nikica Jelavic continues to be linked with a move to Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande. The league is known for paying big in order to attract players from the Premier League such as Ramires’ recent move from Chelsea to Jiangsu Suning for a whopping £25 million.

With Jelavic struggling to get into the West Ham team, a move to China on a sizeable wage package could be a deal-clincher for the Croatian forward. Bilic confirmed himself that the striker could be out of the door soon:

“We have Jelavic who might go to China, but they are in pre-season at the moment, so he is staying with us until he might sort the deal out.”

If Jelavic does leave, Emenike’s arrival should cover the void in attack as long as the 28-year-old signs for the Hammers. Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho are expected to return to the squad within two weeks so the squad is quickly returning to full strength in an attacking sense.

Elsewhere, Reece Oxford is set to join Championship strugglers Charlton Athletic on loan until the end of the season. The 17-year-old started the season sublimely, performing brilliantly on the opening day of the season in the Hammers’ excellent 2-0 victory at the Emirates. The move means Oxford will still be playing at a competitive level whilst gaining vital experience as he continues to mature as a player.

Another defender linked with a move away is Joey O’Brien. The right-back admitted he may have to depart the Club in order to secure a spot in Ireland’s squad for Euro 2016:

“I need to be playing games to try and get into the next squad for the friendlies. Then we can see what happens from there but I need to be playing. If the manager wants me to go on loan, I will look at that.”

With Carl Jenkinson forced to return to Arsenal with a season-ending injury, O’Brien has moved up the pecking order but it remains to be seen whether he will still get any game time due to the likes of Sam Byram signing and the impressive James Tomkins occupying the right-back slot in recent fixtures.
