The Senegalese midfielder has been a very important part of the West Ham team since arriving from Anderlecht.

The holding midfield player has on numerous occasions demonstrated his versatility, for example he has played at centre back, and he can play in a normal central midfield role as well as his natural holding midfield role.

Cheikhou Kouyate has become one of West Ham’s most consistent players, frequently making powerful runs from midfield and scoring goals.

It is all well and good having technical players such as Payet, Song and Lanzini, however Kouyate provides a balance of pace and power which is difficult for midfielders and defenders to deal with, especially when he makes forward runs.

Given his versatile, powerful and reliable nature he must be one of the first names on the team sheet because West Ham have nobody else like him. Kouyate is a good defensive player as well, he tackles well and is always an aerial threat. The Senegalese international has attracted interest from Spurs and it is understandable interest because he is incredibly powerful and surprisingly quick.

With Alex Song returning to the first team, there is inevitably competition for places and especially in midfield. Some fans feel that Noble will and should be sacrificed, but there is no way that Kouyate can de dropped from this side because even when he or the team aren’t playing well, the African midfielder can start brilliant attacks with his surging runs forward with the ball.

If the club are going to maintain the good start to the league, Kouyate will be integral in the process of keeping us in the Europa league spots.

Arsenal have only recently found quite a powerful midfielder in Coquelin, he has been key to their success and good results. Kouyate should not be under appreciated by West Ham fans because he does a great job, and he can bully players off the ball. I really hope that Kouyate is playing in a claret and blue shirt at the Olympic stadium next season because he brings a lot to the team with his hard working style of play.

The midfielder has justifiably become a fan favourite since his arrival at the start of last season, scoring 7 goals in total. 3 of those 7 goals coming in this season already, once again highlighting his significance and presence in the team.

Ultimately, Kouyate is imperative to any success the club might achieve because he scores goals and assists. The West Ham team without the former Anderlecht player is less threatening and far less powerful.

I feel that if the club can hold onto the 25 year old, he could have a very successful and long career with West Ham, massively contributing to the future success that we might have at the Olympic stadium.
