An enquiry into West Ham’s move to the Olympic Stadium has been rejected by the Government.

A number of fans’ trusts including the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Leyton Orient all supported the idea of an enquiry that would look to explore the details behind the decision to award West Ham with the Olympic Stadium.

Now, it looks as if formal opposition to the move will finally die down as the Hammers look to start the 99-year lease of the stadium next season.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport released a statement that outlined why the calls for an enquiry was rejected:

“West Ham United has a concession at the stadium and their contributions reflect that status. The contract, awarded after an open public competition, has been widely scrutinised and tested in court,

“The stadium remains in public ownership (E20 Stadium LLP – a joint venture between the London Legacy Development Corporation and Newham Council) and the profits from its multiple uses will flow to the taxpayer.

“The agreement with West Ham United, including their contribution to transformation costs and rent, followed an open competitive process, which was delivered under EU rules, conducted visibly and exposed to significant scrutiny.

“The outcome has been tested in the courts and upheld. As the winning bid this constituted the best available return for the taxpayer and secures the commercial viability of a national asset for the next 100 years.”

After what seems like a barrage of opposition, it looks as if the final hurdle on any further inquiry has now been cleared and Hammers fans can get excited about the move to the new stadium next year.

It’s safe to say we’re all pretty happy about it…

They have 6 months to get 100,000 people signed up at which point they may have a public enquiry. At 10,000,which they’ve had, they’re obliged to give a response.

Even if they do receive 100,000 signatures nothing will come of it. Are they really going to spend another £10m of tax payers money on an argument they can’t win? I think this will be the end of it.

The first time I went to the emirates I was late when I got in at the away end I looked around to see a sea of red and white my first thought was WOW!! I didn’t know they could stack shit that high, and it will probably be the same reaction to my first visit at the new bridge, and as for orient WHO ARE YOU exactly? Oh yeah you’re that little football club that was owned by that maggot that started all this noise about West Ham and the OS and then made sure he stuck around long enough to get some sort of compensation and then sold you too a “what do we do now”man so I say again.. Who are you. COYI
