It was a poor performance from West Ham as they suffered yet another away loss in 2015. West Ham have now failed to win away from home since their 1-2 victory against West Brom all the way back in December 2014.

Big Sam’s side struggled to create anything in the first half, retaining very little possession and not registering a single shot on target. The second half was slightly different due to the introduction of Nene and Song but West Ham still lacked creativity and failed in trying to break Aston Villa down.

Adrian: 6

Produced a couple of decent saves in the first half to keep Aston Villa out. Could do very little about the goal and had little to do afterwards.

Aaron Cresswell: 5

Not his finest game in a Hammers shirt but he was pretty solid at the back. Did not get a lot of joy going forward, partly due to the fact that West Ham struggled to use possession effectively in midfield.

Reece Burke: 6

Another solid performance from the young centre-back. He did well in keeping Christian Benteke quiet and it says a lot that West Ham haven’t exactly struggled defensively since Burke has featured in the starting eleven.

James Collins: 6

Performed well alongside Burke and was typically strong in the air. Put in a number of well-timed challenges and was generally solid throughout.

Carl Jenkinson: 6

Put in a couple of very good crosses that either Sakho or Carroll would have thrived on. Was quick to get forward at times and looked like one of West Ham’s biggest threats in the first half. Showed excellent positional awareness at times to cover in defence. West Ham should do all they can to sign him permanently this summer.

Chiekou Kouyate: 5

Showed a good amount of commitment and energy in midfield but he didn’t see much of the ball in the first half. Seems to play better alongside Alex Song in midfield.

Kevin Nolan: 3

A very poor performance from the captain. Looked off the pace and lost his man for Villa’s goal and was subsequently substituted at half time. Just seems to be lacking the fitness and ability to be starting in the Premier League. Despite Nolan’s excellent service to the club, he and West Ham should part ways in the summer.

Mark Noble: 5

He’s struggled to find good, consistent form this season. At too many times this afternoon he looked sluggish and lacked ideas in midfield, often committing silly fouls in frustration.

Stewart Downing: 4

Pushed out onto the wing yet again and produced a typically poor performance in that position. He really looks like he’s lacking confidence and even the switch to the tip of the diamond in the second half did him no favours. If Stewart Downing doesn’t perform, chances are West Ham won’t either.

Morgan Amalfitano: 4

Lots of fans would have been pleased to see Morgan’s name in the starting line-up but he made little to no impact as he was substituted at half time. Looked a frustrated figure as he kicked out at Tom Cleverley and he couldn’t link up with Cresswell on the left-hand side.

Enner Valencia: 5

Put himself about throughout the game but was often treated as the target man as West Ham looked for the easy, obvious ball every time. He carried more of a threat in the second half and was unlucky not to score when his header was ruled out for offside. He needs a good strike partner to thrive.

SUBS:

Nene: 6

Came on for a whole 45 minutes and looked very lively. Went close with a good strike and produced a number of excellent crosses into the box. It’s clear to see that Big Sam needs to give the Brazilian more game time.

Alex Song: 5

Not bad but not brilliant either. Helped the shape of the team and retention of the ball in the second half with the switch to the diamond but lacked creativity once again, should be playing ahead of Kevin Nolan in the next match.

Carlton Cole: 5

Tried to make himself a nuisance in the latter stages of the game but his efforts came to no avail. Didn’t really have a sniff at goal and struggled to link up with Enner Valencia.

l think it really is time for a change of manager at West Ham ,it is clear that the players are not playing for the fat man ,he is going backwards as is the team .The owners must be aware that they need to fill the new stadium when the club moves, they will never do that with the moron in charge of the team .Act in the summer and do the right thing or the club cannot move forward
