Ravel Morrison, once deemed to be the best player to come out of the Manchester United academy by Sir Alex Ferguson, quite the compliment when you consider the stars produced at Carrington. Now it seems that he’s surplus to requirements wherever he goes, whether that’s on loan to Cardiff City or if he is at his parent club West Ham United.

When he joined the Hammers in January 2012 as part of a trio of exciting forwards, he was the name that got every Hammers fan talking, blessed with blistering pace and world-class dribbling skills Ravel was dubbed the next big thing. His off field antics were, though, well publicised; he had the ego that not even one of the best man managers in the world, Sir Alex, could tame. But in October 2013 his big moment in claret and blue came as he ghosted through the Tottenham Hotspurs’ defence at White Hart Lane before dinking delightfully over Hugo Lloris to put the Hammers 3-0 up. Finally he was showing us what all the fuss was about.

His off the field antics have though seemed to cast a shadow over his West Ham career and just as the Hammers were crying out for a creative spark last season he was shipped out on loan to QPR. As the 2014/2015 season came around, fresh rumours regarding his personal life reared its ugly head again. Rumours that have since of course been disregarded, but it is those rumours that are going to halt his progress at a top-flight club.

With his contract running down, Sam Allardyce and his staff will have to make a decision whether to cut their losses and let him go, or give him one final chance to prove he can keep his head down and knuckle down and live up to his enormous potential.
