What was the point in West Ham signing them?

Mladen PetricWest Ham’s striker crisis has been well documented so far this season, the lack of a cutting edge up front has led Sam Allardyce into playing without a recognised forward.

Allarydce and the board felt that two strikers would be enough for the season even though Andy Carroll was already on the injury list. Claims they tried their best is just not good enough and we are really feeling the effects of that gamble now.

When the news broke that Carroll’s lay off was going to be extended there was panic at the Boleyn ground, which led to the free signings of Mladen Petric and Carlton Cole.

To chase players with the ability of Romelu Lukaku and Fabio Quagliarella throughout the summer window and end up with Petric and the re-signing of Cole was a huge let down.

At the moment it seems that both signing are indeed just a waste of time, the former Fulham striker is currently out injured and what we have seen of our beloved Cole has not been great.

To have signed these forwards and then to play six in midfield with no focal point just shows that Allardyce has no faith in the new signings, or Maiga.

Will they play any part in our season? I am not sure at all, I can see all three getting released or sold in the January transfer window to open up wages for a loan signing or two!

With not one goal from a striker this season its worrying times for West Ham, Cole and Petric seem to be pointless signing. I hope they can get a run of games and score a few goals but I am not optimistic of that happening.

What do fellow Hammers fans think of the free signings? Surely needs addressing? Can either provide the goals to move up the table?

Agreed with the author, WHU continue to make below average signings. It resembles crisis management? We signed a Brazilian striker in the middle of last season… Where is he? Good enough to represent Brazil, but not good enough for WHU. Why sign him then? Sam is accountable for this mess, he must fix it or move on.

Need to clear out the dead wood in January.

Thank goodness I can no longer use a season ticket
at least I havent wasted the cash

Highlights of Saturday football now consist of watching the odd near miss
or great free kick from the opposition
It could not be a lot worse

This reminds me so much of the season we went down with Roeder.
Main forward was Kanoute, he got injurred early on and didn’t come back intil about march, and we were already dead and buried.
January transfer, we scrambles for Les ferdinan, took 2 months to get him fit and we all said, what a great midfield we have , look at the players we have.. Relegated.
By the way, our keeper should watch how to save a snodgrass freekick, tim howard moved his feet last night and dived ! something Jassi hasn’t mastered yet.
January – My friend at Aresnal said we are trying to get Nic Bentner, which would make sense, can’t get in another team, unfit, arrogant, can’t score goals, slow… A typical january signing.

It’s the same every year! Buying half a dozen over the hill past it players, whom you then can’t get rid of , instead of investing in one or two good players ! I dread to think how much money has been thrown down the drain by the club over the past ten years.

I am just as frustrated as any other Hammers fan out there that we’re struggling to score goals and don’t have strong strikers to choose from. But let’s be realistic, the only thing we can feel let down by is that BS and Chairmen didn’t sign another proven forward to start the season. BS and his medical team weren’t to know the severity of Carroll’s injury at the time, we all thought he would recover and be playing by now, you can’t blame BS for that.

Maiga was given a thorough chance in pre-season and basically wasn’t good enough, again not much BS can do about that. Petric was a good emergency buy, look more than capable until he got injured, and then Vaz Te steps in, scores a couple and then gets injured. We bring back CC, not much choice, and he has only just gained fitness to be able to start a match. While all the above options vanished, all of us were hoping Nolan would still be scoring the vital goals, and that’s not happened either.

Basically BS has had very little to work with since the start of the season, yes he should have bought another striker in the summer, but we did have 3 or 4 other options which either got injured or weren’t good enough. That’s why the 4-6-0 is now the preferred formation, he has to try something else, its just taking time for the players to adapt.

Question is, will he continue with the same formation or start CC against Chelsea? COYI!!

It´s time for fans to vote with their feet down to 10,000 for a month or two should do it ,there´s a lot of money going into WEST HAM and not a lot coming out, .(all down to paying off the so called inherited debt ).what money is made available Allardyce spends on help the aged. I´m sick of the struggle(Lets give youth a chance ) if we have to let´s go down , GET A MANAGER and try to build aside to be worthy of the premier league.

we need to get rid of BFS and his over the hill pet NOLAN who gets a start EVERY game although he is a 5/10 at most since the 1st game of the season

  • blimey says:

OK Guys, I see there is a lot of discontent out there, but really, did you watch the Norwich game?
OK, a goal scorer would have been in hat-rick heaven the chances we created in the first half, and no matter how many strikers we have, the penalty was nothing to do with that and turned the game.
Don’t use your discontent with results as an excuse to have a go at BFS or the board.

The ones moaning about Sam will be the same ones crying when he gets replaced and his successor inevitably gets us relegated. I’m embarrassed to be an iron sometimes. We’ve be added to our team over the past 2 seasons and not sold any key players; surely that’s not the west ham way. As fans we are the most arrogant, pathetic fair weather fans in the league. We deserve the likes if brown and roader, not a manager that got us promoted the first year and tenth in the prem the next. Or chairman that love and have saved our club from extinction

  • Kenny Irons says:

Allardyce will get us relegated – the man is a clown. But, unfortunately, with Curbishley and the even more hapless Grant as predecessors, the worry is who they would bring in – knowing our luck, probably Tony Pulis !
Might as well share the OS with the Orient as will be in same division.
People keep going on about finishing 10th last year – but in truth our home form stopped us from being relegated. How many goals did we score away last year ? – 7 I believe, which quite frankly is a bloody disgrace. What did we do in the Summer to cure our scoring woes? Sign an already injured Carroll for a ridiculous financial package and then bring back Carlton ” no goals” which is the biggest piss take of all. Barnsley in the Olympic Stadium – nice !!

  • Paul says:

Where do I even start, Sam Allardice has always been a safe type of manager without really winning anything, but will he keep us up this season. Surely we have to spend in January and even if we have to sell a couple, to get two good strikers then that’s what we must achieve.. For me a life long fan I would like to see the following payers go, Nolan, C Cole, Petric, Collison, Diarra, Carroll and Collins…..Ins Defoe, Crouch or Bent or Lambert, return for Parker, and to see our youngsters more Potts, Elliott Lee, Driver…….

Come On You Irons Sort It Out……..

    • kristoffer says:

omg what are you talking about have you even seen us play this year? you want to get rid if nolan, collinson and collins? are you mad?? they have for the most part been excellent this year! look at peter crouch this year…. Pants!!! and parker has lost his legs, he cant run any more. yes we need new players and get rid of a few chaf players, but carroll once fit should be a great assett for us!

      • Dan says:

You clearly haven’t seen us play if you’re saying Nolan has been excellent. Seen better midfielders play for the local Dog & Duck.

  • James says:

If Sam does go. Rather than throw our money at expensive players, we should put together a package to lure Roland Koeman from Feyenoord.

  • hammer says:

Change the name to forever moaning about everything west ham brackets lets all wreck morale brackets
