My transfer wishlist for West Ham

Keisuke HondaWest Ham United is a club that is close to my heart and it will forever pump the colours claret and blue through my veins. Nevertheless, like most things close to us, there are always them small things that bother us. In this case it’s the way we do our business in the transfer market, therefore I have decided to come up with a few moves I believe we should make.

We have so far secured the signings of Razvan Rat from Shahktar Donetsk and Adrian from Real Betis, respectively. Whilst also managing to finalise our record signing in Andy Carroll (Also our priority target). However, I personally feel it’s the next few signings that can really alter the scales either in our favour or against us.

Rumours are circulating on a daily basis as always around Upton Park, with many names thrown about like chips on a roulette table. However, what targets should we really be focusing on and what are the chances of us actually getting them to sign the dotted line?

Firstly, signing a back up or second striker would be a smart move (one avenue we are looking to go down) which I am happy to hear about; it was reported we made an official bid for goal-scoring machine Wilfried Bony. This is a move that really excites me, as he is a proven goal-scorer. Admittedly, it is in the Dutch Eredevise, which lets be honest isn’t the most challenging league. However, if a player can find the net 34 times in 31 games and cause fear in the defences throughout the league the way he does, he is surely worth the gamble.

One question I have about this move, however, is the fact that he would cost around £10 million (possibly more), which makes me think where could we get this sort of money from? Moreover, would it be worth it, if his only going to play in cup games and the odd league fixture here and there? Personally, I feel if we do decide to go for him, he needs to play alongside Carroll and make every dime count, or we should leave it here and call it a day in our attempts.

There is no doubt Bony would be my number one choice, however, if we are trying to sign a back up striker rather than a player to play alongside Carroll, someone like Demba Ba would be a great punt if we can get him on loan. His wages could prove to be one hurdle, but in the modern game clauses and deals can help make unlikely deals, possible. The likes of Gary Hooper and Matej Vydra are also names that appear to be lingering around and I for one, wouldn’t mind either of them at West Ham.

Elsewhere, we need a talented right-winger capable of delivering the same standard of crosses as Matthew Jarvis does on the left. As I mentioned in a previous article, this position would be filled perfectly with the optimistic capture of former CSKA Moskva midfielder, Keisuke Honda.

Honda is a gifted player and he would surely offer us that missing flair we so desperately need in our side. His wages could also be an obstacle, as well as his desire to play Champions League football. If he was to come on our radar and he chooses to sign for us, this would show more intent and direction than the signing of Carroll, despite him costing nothing, as he is a free agent.

Due to the system Big Sam as opted for since he took charge at the Hammers, I will not go on mentioning players who won’t fit in. Therefore, players in the mould of the pint-sized Spaniards are out of the picture. Taking that into account, I feel a great option for us would be Celtic’s Victor Wanyama.

Now this is a player who is gifted physically, he has a terrific engine and isn’t short of a yard or two. On the ball he has certainly proved he can play and has managed to catch the eye on an international scale. If we were to attempt to sign him, the chance to play Premier League football would surely appeal to him, however the sacrifice of Champions League football could mean this move is a little out of reach, not to mention the likelihood of strong competition for his signature.

Lastly, it’s been reported we are close to signing Ecuadorian winger’ Jefferson Montero from Monarcas Morelia on a permanent basis. Many fans have mentioned they fear this could be another ‘Pablo Barrera’ in the making, however, despite being a very similar player he does have an undoubtedly great talent for leaving players for dust and eases past players better than Barrera ever did. I would love to see this kind of player make it at West Ham, but until we have a few trials and errors we will never know and our game plan will always be the same. I am not going to suggest he will make it, however he does have a chance if he can manage to adapt to the game and get game time under his belt on a regular basis.

There are many names I would love to see at West Ham, however the names I have mentioned I feel would surely improve our chances next season.

    -Bony has signed for Swansea
-Wanyama would be an exceptional signing, though too expensive
-Montero would be a waste of wages. Would be better in the kitty then spending money for spending sakes.

Realistic Options that are being mentioned within the Clubs Office,
    – Zapata will be signed, ironing out clauses
    – Enquiry made for Downing

BS has been warned that Academy Members MUST be given a go at some stage and incorporated into the senior system.

Really would like to get bony! For apart from his goals what would be really exciting is the almost limitless options signing a striker of his class would afford us! But I hear his club want all the fee up front and not in the usual instalments, which would be a problem for us! Downing would actually be a good shout! But only if the fee was right and Big Sam could get the same sort of form and work rate as he has coaxed out of Big Andy! As for any other potential signings, well that is looking increasingly more likely to be freebies and loans. But hopefully not any from the bargain basement and certainly not bramble!

    Remy 6m ba loan
Downing and or milner 8m and loan

Some vision and creativity in midfield will take us up a level. Maybe Remy up front could prove fruitful.Bramble would take us back to the championship days

zapata- i like the look of this guy hope we pull it of.
montero-£3mill?why not?its just as big of a gamble as asking redmond to step upto the premier league.
whic leaves us with loan signings.
id like to take morata from real madrid-big strong striker ith an eye for goal
scott sinclair-loan to buy next summer like the carrol deal last year-gives us 3 out and out wingers
Now i think that leaves us pretty much spent up.however other funds could be freed up if the rumoured sales of vz te,taylor, maiga, diarria every come to fruition. In which case id estimate 8-10million available so
Kevin doyle for 2-3mill extra cover uptop and can fill in out wide
luke ayling (yeovil town) or nedum onuhua-would cost again 2millish each-sign 1 of them to start at rb
could leave us 4-6mill in the bank

  • Brooking says:

Everyone is forgetting victor Moses he’s powerful, versatile which could cover our right side of midfield or slot in for Nolan or Carroll if injured furthermore he can score goals whilst will improve since he’s only 22 I would sign him instantly if he doesn’t feature n mourinhos plans which would drive down the price
Would also like to see a loan deal for ba or lukaku as they both are a handful and would help out for goals. If we’re short on money I would sell Taylor, McCartney, demel and maiga if it meant it would deliver us a good signing in return

    • Chelsea says:

He was a starter at points for Chelsea last season, we won’t be selling him

    • Chelsea says:

And Lukaku is our best striker at the moment, we won’t be loaning him, and we need depth at striker so no Demba Ba either

  • Terry Gill says:

Bony is gone, forget it,Downings wages too high,Lapata was just an enquiry ,we have no money left at all,if we sign someone it’ll be on loan, the coffers are empty im afraid, bottom 10 finish I think,at least were stable and until we wipe that 70 mill Icelandic debt off and move to the new stadium that’s where we will stay,so be patient!

  • Matt says:

No. 1 priority – Honda! (Free agent)
    Malouda (free agent)
    Sinclair (loan)
    Milner over Downing any day
    Kalou (3m)
