West Ham’s Underrated Midfielder

|

Jack Collison celebrating play-off goal against CardiffJack Collison is one of my favourite players from the current West Ham squad and one I feel should get a lot more playing time than he has had this season. The very man that was rated at 10 million pounds and on Arsenal’s radar only a few seasons ago, injury has been a cruel interlude in the Welshman’s career, but after his goal at Stoke City and the squad hit by injuries, this could be Jack’s time to shine.

Injuries saw both Kevin Nolan, who is set to be out for a while and Mark Noble miss the away victory, with Matt Taylor and Joe Cole both being forced off early due to injury, leading to the introduction of scorer Collison, and the man with the assist, Ricardo Vaz Te. With even more gaps left by those two injuries, both Collison and Vaz Te could play a bigger part in the final stage of the season.

West Ham’s number 10 has got all the desirable attributes of a midfielder, he can pass, score goals, isn’t exactly slow and has skill in abundance. Towards the end of last season he showed exactly what he could do, scoring 2 vital goals at Leicester, playing superbly in the semi finals, and playing a part in that fabulous Wembley win that still gives me Goosebumps.

I personally do think he’s underrated, instead of playing O’Neil or Taylor, the youthful JC should be looked to as the player to step in and prove his point. Although he has to managed properly with his injury problems, he should have been given a chance a little prior to Stoke, but lets hope Big Sam sees how good he really is and is inspired to pick him from now on.

I think Collison, especially after that goal, deserves his chance. Although it’s reported that he’ll never be fully fit again the 24 year old has said himself he can play games and feels comfortable with the management of his knee problems. With a big final 10 or so games left for the Hammers, Collison could bring some much needed skill, goals and motivation to the rest of the lads. I hope to see much more of him from now on.

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11685/8539789/West-Ham-midfielder-Jack-Collison-having-to-manage-troublesome-knee probably worth noting that he can’t actually play that many games. I agree with most of thing in this article, but the fact he can’t train with the squad and will never be 100% has to be considered. Sam’s comments after Stoke indicated that he would love to play him more but whether it’s possible, it seems unlikely.

L King at spuds played for years with poor knees, and Jack is only young, he will get stronger over the next few years-and will get to be a better player for the irons, maybe another BONDS.COYIS

As much as Big Sam is disliked I think we can all agree when it comes to getting the team fit and medical care his record speaks for himself. He uses a lot of methods to get the best from the players and he probably feels that Jack is better off as an impact sub because of his condition. It’s unfortunate but such is life

I have watched Collison many a time, but I just do not feel the same. He is a good player, and may have scored a few goals lately, but he just reminds me of a giraffe. His touch is poor and he doesn’t really add anything to the side. He is slow, and unless he hits the ball without thinking about it, he is pretty useless in front of goal. Yes his injuries will mean he cannot play every game, so why on earth keep him?
