An audible collective groan echoed around the bottom half of the Premier League last night as Arouna Kone’s late winner hauled Wigan to within 6 points of a clutch of teams including our very own West Ham United.

When we defeated Swansea at home I felt we were safe, when we became only the 2nd side this season to win at the Britannia I felt we were safe…and yet again thanks to Wigan Athletic’s traditional late show, we still require at least two more wins in order to be sure of survival.
Our next game against West Brom at home now takes on truly Titanic proportions as the game after happens to be Liverpool at Anfield…and given how we’ve barely turned up at the Emirates and the Bridge this season I don’t see us ending our Anfield hoodoo anytime soon.
After a fantastic first half of the season which saw us briefly flirt with the top 6 our second half of the campaign has been poor; our truly horrendous away form puts so much pressure on us to win in the warm and familiar surroundings of the Boleyn and this will certainly be the case when we clash with the Baggies; as I think we can already predict a meek surrender at Liverpool.
Looking for experience? Just want to be heard outside of the Boleyn? We are currently looking for writers, drop us an email at email@example.com for more details
Sam Allardyce’s chances of getting that much coveted new deal seem to get slimmer with every away day surrender and a general malaise in the 2nd half of this season. Had just a few of our endless list of away defeats been converted into draws I dare say we’d already be safe; I’m sure this hasn’t gone unnoticed by the two David’s who heavily backed Sam in both transfer windows and in all honesty probably expect better.
I do still expect us to stay up…though that would have been enough to retain Sam’s services at the start of the season; it may not be now.
