West Ham’s ‘big man’ returns

West Ham midfielder against SunderlandSaturday’s humiliation at the hands of Sunderland had one positive and one positive only for West Ham…it heralded the return of our best player… Mohamed Diame.

Before Mo got injured he was tearing up the Premier League with his all action performances; most notably against Chelsea when he came on at half time and almost single handily pummelled the European champions into submission.

Now no doubt we’ve struggled since Diame’s injury sustained against Liverpool; typified by the fact that with Diame on the pitch we were 2-1 up cruising and in his absence we somehow conspired to throw away the chance of what would’ve been a very valuable three points.

However rather ironically Diame’s enforced lay-off has seen the tempest surrounding his future abate if only temporarily. There is little doubt in my mind if Diame was still putting in Roy of the rovers type performances; a club with a little more gumption and substance than QPR would’ve been trying desperately to wrestle him from our clutches.

Diame’s return will unfortunately once again have the vultures circling above the Boleyn; Arsenal and Chelsea have now been heavily linked with our star man who rather amazingly seems to have a buy-out clause set at a paltry 3.5 million.

We’ve managed to survive the first 2 weeks of January with our main man Mo still amongst our ranks…but that was with him out of the watchful glare of opposing Premier League clubs. His return will undoubtedly help as we try and reach that magical 40 point mark as quickly as possible; however his return will also see some of the league’s big wigs battering their eyelashes at Mo seductively, with tales of the Champions League whispered into his ears.

Easier said than done I realise but the clubs hierarchy have got to sort Mo out that new deal; and in a world where the likes of Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing can go for 20 million a pop…at the very least quadruple Mo’s release clause.
