West Ham Need To Take Noble Off Set Pieces

|

Now we all love him; the local boy from Canning Town, one of our own, penalty taker extraordinaire and our longest serving player as well as vice captain…but what about his set pieces?

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

Mark Noble is someone who epitomises everything that is West Ham; an academy graduate and a proper son of the Boleyn… his set pieces on the other hand leave a lot to be desired.

A typical Nobes free kick/corner is usually floated towards to the near post which invariably drifts gracefully into the opposing ‘keepers arms. Or it’s over hit towards the back stick and no-one can get on the end of it.

Now what is surprising is that for a man who prides himself on his ability to set up a side not only to capitalise on but also to defend stoutly from set pieces …Sam seems happy to allow Noble to serially squander possession with his poor execution from dead balls.

Surely our record signing in Matt Jarvis who in my humble opinion is the best crosser at the club; epitomised by the havoc he wreaked in the QPR box at the weekend needs to be given a chance to whip the ball in at these opportunities. And surely he should split that responsibility with Joey Cole: the two crosses put in by Joey for James Collins’ towering headers against Manchester United more than ample proof that he’s up to the job.

I just feel at a time when we’re struggling to score goals; set-pieces have even more significance and these opportunities surely shouldn’t continue to be squandered by Mark Noble’s less than inspiring delivery.

We have other options and in my opinion we should use them.

Joey was taking corners at the weekend for most of the match. Encouraging, as Nobe’s corners are weak. However, I also think that Jarvis is not made for corners. His crosses tend to be floated rather than “whipped” and his aim isn’t pinpoint (although always in the right area). Joey to continue for me.

Agree with Ashley, J.Cole took most corners at the weekend and Jarvis one or two in the second half, one almost led to a QPR chance.

J.Cole to take the set pieces and Jarvis with O’brien at the back incase theres a break by the opposition, which
    is what Sam does now

I agree Noble is my favourite player but shouldn’t be taking free kicks or corners. I would actually have Taylor take them but with Jarvis and now Joey Cole he doesnt get as much game time so over to Joey for the corners i think not sure about Jarvis but he is a good crosser so is another option who would prob be better than noble.

As long as Noble still takes every penalty though

  • Tony Hammer says:

Matt Taylor should take them from one side (assuming he is on the pitch of course) and either Matt Jarvis or Joey Cole on the other. Leaving them to Noble is a waste of a set piece in my opinion
