Is Diame Speaking The Truth?

|

West Ham midfielder

Mohamed Diame has came out and said he has no desire to leave West Ham as he is very happy at the club after constant speculation surrounding his future with West Ham.

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

West Ham signed Mohamed Diame in the summer on a free transfer which has been looking to be the signing of the season. It them emerged that Diame had a buy out clause in his contract of £3.5million so since the start of January fans have had the worry of Diame moving to one of the numerous clubs that have been rumoured to want his service. The main interest seems to come from Arsenal who could offer Diame high wages and Champions League football which would be a draw for any player especially a player of Diame’s calibre. The problem with a move to Arsenal would be the fact that he would have to settle for a bit-part role there where as at West Ham he is a key player.

As a West Ham fan this has been my constant worry through out the January transfer window. To me I wanted to add to players to build a team around players like Diame. When so called bigger clubs come in for your best players all the fans are going to a bit anxious and rightly so, to lose a player of Diame’s stature would have a drastic effect on the team, but to lose him for as little as £3.5million would also be a shame. I know that we gained Diame for free in the summer but this is the kind of player that could bring a club in the region of £10millon plus, but even at that I would not sell him.

To me Diame is a future West Ham captain and a future West Ham great. Who else could you buy for £3.5million that could do such a good job as Diame has done for West Ham this season? I would be hard pushed to even think of a name to match what he has achieved with West Ham this season.

When I saw the press release by Sky Sports News that Diame gave to West Ham’s official website I was over the moon. Diame stated that:

“I know there are people out there saying things about me but I have spoken with the manager and told him that I want to stay here”.

“I know the club want to keep me too so I will continue to give my best for them”.

“I knew when I signed that West Ham were going to make their mark on the Premier League. Since I came here I am enjoying every game I play on the pitch”.

“I think I made a good choice because I’m very happy at this club.”

This is music to my ears and it’s great to see a player that is not driven by money in this day and age in the footballing world. Diame is a key player for West Ham and I hope he knows that! To build a team around the likes of Diame, Mark Noble, Winston Reid and James Tomkins could allow West Ham to go on to do great things.

This is a good sign that players don’t want to leave West Ham like they have in the past. Personally I feel that this is down to the likes of a great manager in Sam Allardyce and the best owners in football with David Gold and David Sullivan and the hard work they have put into the club that keeps players like Diame there.

I just hope Diame is a man of his word and does stay and signs a new contract. This wouldn’t be the first time a player has gone back on his word in football, but for the time being my worries have been eased with Diame’s comments.
