FIVE Things We Learnt Against Chelsea

|

Saturday saw arguably the best result of the season when the mighty Hammers beat London rivals Chelsea by 3 goals to 1 at the Boleyn Ground. A sensational second half performance saw Big Sam’s men fight back from a goal behind and grab 3 good goals to see off a lacklustre effort from Rafa Benitez’s side. There were many highlights to Saturday’s epic win, and here are 5 things I felt we learnt.

WE HAVE STRIKERS THAT CAN SCORE GOALS –
Yes, I said it. We have strikers that can score goals. At the start of the season goals from the front men were few and far between but a powerful header topped off Carlton Cole’s emphatic performance, while Modibo Maiga came off the bench to score in the dying minutes of the game to put the icing on the Claret and Blue cake.

DIAME IS THE SIGNING OF THE SEASON –
Momo Diame’s introduction at half time coupled with Matt Taylor’s completely changed the game. After a poor first half performance Diame came on and revitalised the team with a powerful and skilful display. He flourished against a strong Chelsea midfield and got a well deserved goal which was taken extremely well.

SAM ALLARDYCE GIVES A MEAN HALF TIME TEAM TALK –
Not for the first time this season, we were far better in the second half against the Blues, it was almost as if it were a totally different team that emerged from the tunnel. The second half performance was one of the best I’ve seen from a West Ham team in a long time, one can only imagine how Big Sam does it.

CARLTON COLE HAS GOT TALENT –
I have lost count of the amount of times I have seen the Hammers’ number 9 criticised this season alone. Some have gone as far to say that he is “talentless”. Well I for one think Carlton proved everyone wrong with a fantastic display alone upfront on Saturday. He was powerful, fast and strong as he caused many problems to Ivanovic and Cahill and bagged his first goal of the season.

JUSSI HAS PROVED MANY WRONG –
The number 22 has certainly proved me wrong with his recent displays in the Hammers net but Chelsea was the game that sealed the deal for me. Jussi pulled off some truly wonderful saves to keep the world class forwards at bay and keep our chances of a result alive. I don’t know why I ever doubted him now.
