Is he getting the credit he deserves?

Since our promotion West Ham United have played some very good football back in the Premier League, however for me there has been one player who needs more praise and isn’t getting it. The player I am talking about is Ricardo Vaz Te.

Since signing on the 31st January 2012, he has settled down perfectly for the Irons and the fans already appreciate what he can do after he scored 12 goals in the remaining games of the season. Despite scoring many goals in the games building up to the play-off final, it was under the bright lights of Wembley where he captured the hearts of the fans, scoring the vital late goal that took us straight back into the Premier League.

So far this season he hasn’t been as lethal in front of goal and many people questioned if he could do it at the top level or if he would crumble like many have before him. However, despite not scoring as much, nobody can say that he hasn’t been just as effective with his ability with a ball and the way he runs his feet into the ground each game. A lot of the focus has been on Andy Carroll, Carlton Cole, Kevin Nolan and Mark Noble and how well or bad they have been playing, but for me I feel Ricardo should be getting a lot more praise than he is, the bloke is a steam train at times.

When you think of a winger, you often think of a player like Matt Jarvis (capable of beating his man and crossing) but with Ricardo we get him running with the ball with flair, holding up play and often charging back acting as either cover for Guy Demel or to help defend in general.

He scored his first goal this season against QPR on Monday and I believe there will be at least another 10 more to follow based on the type of player that he is, as even on the wing he is capable of getting himself into prime shooting positions on goal.

It is certainly going to be a tough one to call when you think about what striker on our roster will score the most, my bet is on Ricardo to deliver more than the rest despite our style of playing being more in favour of the big man up top; Andy Carroll.
