Pompeii II?

|

The six points that the Hammers worked so hard to get against Portsmouth could turn to dust as Portsmouth plight gets that little bit darker.

Portsmouth’s administrator warned that the south coast club may not finish the season, meaning all points gained against the Blues will be wiped of the slate so to speak. The Hammers would lose six points and drop out of the automatic promotion places.

Sam Allardyce said the situation could be ‘disastrous’ should the Irons lose six points. As promotion rivals Southampton and Reading are set to only lose a minimum of 4 points should Reading and Southampton beat Pompey in the reverse fixture.

As things stand and if Portsmouth were to go out of business tomorrow the Hammers would drop to 3rd behind Southampton and Reading and it would act as a big blow after the Hammers moved four points clear of Reading after picking up a crucial win in Cardiff.

It is thought that Portsmouth could well see out to April at the very least as funds are coming in as Championship clubs are starting to loan their best players, with Liam Lawrence and Erik Huseklepp leaving the club for Cardiff and Birmingham respectively. Former owners are also looking into pumping money to keep the club alive.

West Ham are also looking to aid Portsmouth survival as they look to secure the signing of Jason Pearce for the remainder of the season offering up a fee and paying his wages for the season in a desperate attempt to help the Blues stay in business.

But let’s look at the positives as thing stand we are four points clear, we played fantastically well today against a team who don’t often lose at home and took Liverpool to penalties a week before. We are a point behind the top of the table with a game in hand. Roll on Wednesday night when should results go our way we could return to the summit.

Come on you Irons! And as a Hampshire lad best of luck Pompey in your survival, you as fans do not deserve what you go through.

Can’t we just loan players to them so they can see out the remaining fixtures??

I’m a saints fan, and the last thing I want to see is Portsmouth go under – forgetting the hate and mindless idiots that ruin each game / website posting – there’s a feeling that I went through it too a few years back – so best of luck to both West Ham and to Pompey and may the best team win …. the way it should be !!

This article is littered with spelling and grammar mistakes- if you’re going to publish something at least make the effort to get that right.

The biggest mistake here though is the comment is that the Pompey fans don’t deserve this. If they were such great supporters you would have thought they might have sold out their stadium for the local derby, or that their season ticket holders would have taken their full allocation for the return fixture. On top of this, their average attendance is well below the full capacity of their (rather small) stadium. If these fans really were that great they would be turning out in their droves to support their team – now is too late, these problems have been there since the start of the season.
I hope they survive, but not for the fans’ sake.

Bang on mate, their claim to be the best fans in the country is all a portsmyth and tbh im so sick and tired of it all now I wouldn’t care if they did go under. As you said their mindless fans who just post utter nonsense having a pop at us (Southampton) all the time rather than actually doing something towards saving their club, deserve everything they get. The latest is that if we dont go up we’re going bust i mean how deluded can they be clinging to the hope we follow suit, sad really but our failure is all they’ve ever had, apart from buying a cup, failing to compete with us and failing to be a top flight club, but look where it got them. Couldn’t sustain it with no fan basis. They should remember in the last 35 years we have had a small blip but spent most of it in the top tier where as they have spent most of that fighting relegation in the second tier with a brief flirt in top flight. They shouldn’t try to punch above their weight and they wouldn’t be in this mess. Good luck west ham for the run in, may the best team finish top COYR

Good luck to Pompey- hope they survive and not just for the sake of our six points. Pompey’s have a real history and terrific fans. When I was a kid I used to think the only Southern teams with properly loyal supporters were us, Chelsea (before they got Billy big time), Millwall and Pompey. Any club’s attendances would have gone down the swanny if their club had lurched from one disaster to anther like Pompey have. Fans united.
