Millwall contain West Ham

|

West Ham Ladies picked up an away point when they played out a 0-0 draw with Millwall Lionesses on Sunday.

Whilst the point away from home keeps West Ham in the chasing pack for promotion, it could also be seen as two points dropped against a side bottom of the league.

The result sees the Hammers slip to fourth in the FA Women’s Premier League South table, two points off current leaders Brighton and Hove Albion Ladies but only a point behind second-placed Colchester United Ladies.

Despite the disappointment of not being able to find a breakthrough, a draw was a fair result for both teams. The Hammers had the better of the play but were often stifled by a good Millwall performance. April Bowers and Jess Barling both came close for West Ham but in the end the away side couldn’t find the back of the net. With honours even the home side nearly grabbed a shock win but the Millwall striker couldn’t find the target with her header in front of goal.

Unfortunately for the Hammers their schedule doesn’t get any easier over the coming weeks as they now face two away trips. They travel to mid-table Keynsham Town Ladies next before a long trip to Plymouth Argyle Ladies the following week.

Elsewhere in the division leaders Brighton and Hove Albion suffered a shock home defeat to Gillingham Ladies, Portsmouth Ladies leapfrogged West Ham with their win over Tottenham Hotspur Ladies, Colchester grabbed all three points away to Queens Park Rangers Ladies and West Ham’s next two opponents shared ten goals as Keynsham beat Plymouth 8-2.
